Our Martial Arts Curriculum & Testing Procedures
One unique aspect of our Programs here at Gracie PAC is that our classes are not only separated by age but also by skill level. This ensures that our students are learning and training with children in their same learning developmental stage and same level of martial arts training. It’s something we really pride ourselves on and know plays a huge role in the success of our students on the mat.
Our Curriculum is also age and skill specific and is taught using our “STEDEYE Method of Teaching” – which allows them to understand understand complex techniques. I created this Method of Teaching in order to help other Instructors and it has become a world wide phenomena in teaching children Jiu Jitsu and maintaining their attention.
Each Month, your child will learn (5) Techniques in their first (5) classes of the month. They will be tested on these (5) techniques the 4th week of each month. We display each Classes techniques on our Lobby TV and on our Dry Erase Board near the training room, this way you know EXACTLY what is expected of them to earn their Stripes and Belts. We also have the complete curriculum to each class in our Closed Parents Facebook Group for you to download.
Our Curriculum Classes will follow a structured layout of Warm Ups, Stretching, Lessons, Drills, a Game, and Mat Chats. The consistency of this structure will help your child become more successful in class.
Our Lesson Plans were created to not only educate, but also entertain our students as they become proficient in the art. We take pride in having the most structured and organized curriculum to ensure our students success.
We also welcome our families to video tape the lesson during class to help their child become even more familiar with the technique at home. Many families even opt in for our Gracie PAC Online Academy – which has video explanations of every technique their child will learn from White Belt to Green Belt.
In addition to our Curriculum Classes, our students also receive a Drill Class each month (It’s is their 6th class of the week and honestly this is one of their favorites!). This class does not teach any “new techniques”; it focuses on our students utilizing the techniques they learned earlier in the month in live scenarios.
We focus on Developmental Drills, Partner Drills, Flow Drills, and Live Drills. We have a saying in our academy, “Drill for Skill” and this class will really allow your child to implement their lessons in real time.
The 4th week of each month our students have an opportunity to Review their (5) techniques as well as test for their Performance Stripe. We review and test on both days, so if your child misses the first class of the week (or needs some additional work on a technique), they will still have an opportunity to test on the second class of the week.
During testing week, you will notice the flow of the class is slightly different. Due to the need of getting through all (5) techniques, we will skip Warm Ups and get right to the test.
Our Instructors will give a brief review of each technique before our students are graded on them. It is healthy for your child to be slightly nervous before Testing Week. Even as adults we get nervous before a big presentation or a job interview. Overcoming challenges is what makes us grow and progress in life.
Our Instructors not only test your child on their success of the (5) techniques, but also on their attitude on the mat, their ability to be a good teammate, and their behavior.
While earning belts and stripes are incredibly exciting to our students – what they are ultimately doing is showing progress. Most times in life, we are happiest when we are progressing. Our Curriculum Classes, Drill Classes, and Testing Classes are structurally organized to set our students up for success. It’s our Motto here at Gracie PAC that Hard Work Pays Off, and when a student earns a stripe and belt it helps them to build their confidence.
